Volunteers ready for action

A huge effort is needed to carry out this summer's events. Saturday morning, shortly before the start of the conference, there was an inspirational gathering for the volunteers. Thousands of shifts are to be filled over the next 25 days.

The conference room was overflowing, and several had to stand in the hallway. People had turned up to help make BCC’s summer events as successful as possible for the participants. They have traveled from all over the world to experience the sense of community and fellowship.

A successful event requires time, effort and good coordination.

During the camp and the conferences in July and August, the voluntary effort totals up to 11 man-years. Over 5,200 shifts are to be filled during the summer, and that does not include the thousands of volunteer hours invested in the planning phase.

– We are well on our way to filling the shifts. We would never have managed this without all of you volunteers helping us, said Elise Friberg during the gathering. She coordinates all volunteer resources in the BCC Event.

– It is fun to see the variety of people who contributes. Directors, students, health professionals and craftsmen, all wanting to pull together.

There are volunteers from Norway, Poland, Switzerland, Germany, Turkey, Hungary and Denmark, contributing to the convention program in various ways. Among other things, they work to deliver food, on security, decor, activities, and program content for young and old.

One of them is Keld Borch from Copenhagen. He has traveled a few days before the conference to rig up equipment around the event area with his local church.

– I almost feel sorry for those who do not volunteer, because it is so fun and rewarding to participate, says Keld.
