Have you heard of the Coolest Group?

At the Brunstad Youth Club camps, there are many activities to choose from between meetings. For example, the program offers gaming, soccer, hockey—and a truly unique activity.

“The Coolest Group” is a special program for participants with disabilities.

“The name simply describes who we are. The group is made up of many unique and inclusive people who go all-in, creating a great atmosphere, and making each other smile,” says program coordinator Mina Vårdal (29), adding:

“Here, we can just be ourselves, and that’s exactly what makes us the coolest group.”

She is one of the volunteers who often helps organize and run the program.

“I find the work very rewarding and deeply engaging. Both the volunteers we visit and the parents show great enthusiasm and interest, and many of them really look forward to our activities.”

Easter camp is fast approaching, and six people have signed up for the “Coolest Group” activity.

“Participants can look forward to a variety of activities that combine excitement, action, and creativity. We go to water parks, play laser tag, go bowling, and do creative activities—there’s something for everyone,” says Mina.

Friendships across local churches

To make it possible for more people to participate, a discounted price is offered regardless of age. Each participant is assigned their own mentor. Most stay in accommodation with their mentors, while some stay at home with their families and participate in the day program. Evenings are spent with the rest of the camp.

“The group is all about inclusion and community. Everyone should be allowed to participate and have a great camp experience and the opportunity to make friends across different churches,” says Mina.
