Participants from 26 different countries, totaling more than 7,000 members, gathered at Brunstad to celebrate Pentecost this year. It is a tradition that has been preserved since the early 1900s.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What is Pentecost?<\/strong>\u00a0<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Pentecost is an important occasion celebrated by Christians around the world to commemorate the day Jesus sent the Holy Spirit down to His disciples in Jerusalem.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The first Pentecost took place ten days after Jesus had ascended to heaven.\u00a0At that time, about 120 disciples, both men and women, were gathered together in prayer in the \u201cUpper Room\u201d in Jerusalem.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The disciples received the Holy Spirit<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

In the Book of Acts, chapter 2:1\u20134, it is written that “… suddenly there came a sound from heaven, as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled the whole house where they were sitting. Then there appeared to them divided tongues, as of fire, and one sat upon each of them. And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.”<\/em>\u202f(Acts 2:1-4)\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This marked a turning point in history.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Now all the disciples\u2014all those who were willing to obey Jesus\u2019 commands\u2014could receive the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit was sent as an Advocate, and together with the Father and the Son, the Holy Spirit works to lead people to salvation and guide the disciples toward growth in Jesus Christ.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This is the central message our conferences are built on.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Holy Spirit\u2014a gift that offers help and strength<\/strong>\u00a0<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

The chapter titled \u201cThe Holy Spirit\u201d in the document describing BCC\u2019s Statement of Faith<\/a> provides further insight into what receiving the Holy Spirit can mean for us in our lives.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n
