\u201cWe see that Israel is engaged in battle again \u2013 join in praying for peace for Jerusalem,\u201d Smith began, referring to the verses in Psalm 122: <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\n

\u201cPray for the peace of Jerusalem: \u2018May they prosper who love you. Peace be within your walls, prosperity within your palaces.\u2019 For the sake of my brethren and companions, I will now say, \u2018Peace be within you.\u2019 Because of the house of the Lord our God I will seek your good.\u201d<\/p>\nPsalm 122:6-9<\/em><\/cite><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

Smith emphasized that the church does not get involved in political issues. But because God made the promise to Abraham, we must pray that He will fulfill it. Smith also referred to the words of the prophet Isaiah: \u201cSee, I have inscribed you on the palms of [both] My hands …\u201d (Isaiah 49:16), adding:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cGod is closely watching both the earthly Jerusalem which is in Israel, and the heavenly Jerusalem which is His body, filled in Him who has all power and authority.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

There was a heartfelt and urgent call to join in prayer for those who are suffering now:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\n

\u201cWe must pray for the people who are experiencing terrible suffering, and of course we must pray for both sides, that as many lives as possible may be spared.\u201d<\/p>\nK\u00e5re J. Smith<\/em><\/cite><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n
